Nelson Head

Home of the Port Stephens Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol and Nelson Bay Inner Lighthouse. The lighthouse was erected on Nelson Head in 1872. It was originally powered by four kerosene lamps. The last upgrade to the Nelson Head tower Inner Lighthouse was in 1995 when solar powered occulting white and red sector light was installed. A trust was established in 1986 to restore the Inner Lighthouse and cottage, and since then has become a major tourist attraction for Port Stephens and is now heritage listed. The views from the lighthouse are panoramic and stunning.

Little Beach is a very popular safe beach for the children to swim and a good picnic area, with barbecues available. With a four lane all tide boat ramp with fish cleaning tables and loads of trailer parking. Great place to launch your trailer boat adventure.
